Bring Your Appetite to Viva la Vista, Columbia’s Largest Block Party

Viva la Vista, the second annual epicurean event in Columbia’s Congaree Vista, promises a full afternoon of tasting from the best restaurants in the Vista on Saturday, September 12, from 2:00 – 7:00 p.m.

At this year’s event, there will be no shortage of music. During Viva la Vista, two stages (one in the Liberty parking lot and another at Lincoln and Lady Streets) will feature several bands playing all afternoon. Viva la Vista has also joined forces with the popular Free Times Music Crawl, which kicks off at 7:00 p.m. and features several bands playing in venues around the Vista. Wristbands for the crawl will be sold during Viva la Vista. For more information on bands visit

“Who doesn’t love to sample different foods by great chefs and restaurants at lower prices? And with the wine tasting, beer tent and the local craft vendors we’ve added to the mix this year, and all of the music, there’s something for everyone at Viva la Vista,” said Deirdre Mardon, Director of the Vista Guild. “From sushi to steaks, taps to wine, we have it all. It’s a great afternoon and evening in the Vista with a block party feel.”

The Lincoln Street Canopy on both sides of Gervais Street will be lined with chefs preparing food and lots of tasty, affordable bites; family-friendly activities for visitors of all ages; and live music. Viva la Vista visitors this year will find crafts and goods offered by local vendors on Gervais Street, such as bottle cap art by local artist Marianne Huebner and Adluh Flour products – and more. Gervais & Vine Owner Kristian Niemi helped choose a sophisticated selection of wine for tasting.

Each restaurant will offer menu items ranging from one to five tokens. Tokens cost $1 each and will be available for purchase at several locations along Lincoln Street.

Sample menus include:

- Pimento-stuffed sausage with Adluh grits for $1 by 300 Senate
- Mini osso buco for $3 by Ristorante Divino
- Organic pizza by Z Pizza
- Ahi tuna with a balsamic glaze and wasabi crème fraiche for $4 by Sheraton Columbia Downtown hotel
- Kid-friendly candy apples for $2 and boiled peanuts for $3 by Cromer’s

There’s more! Also participating among the 27 restaurants are Gervias & Vine, Ruth’s Chris, Saki Tumi, Blue Marlin, the all-new Cupcake and many, many more.

Bring your children, bring your ID, bring your appetite. Plan for an afternoon of fun, great food at excellent prices and a full lineup of music.
